Download on Your Computer, Watch on Your Phone
Seedr is a cloud service. Your files live on our servers, not on any single device. This means you can add a file from your laptop during lunch, then stream it on your phone during your commute — no syncing, no transfers, no waiting. Start a download at home before work, and it's ready to watch when you're on the train.
We built Seedr as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which gives you an app-like experience directly from your browser. Install it to your home screen on any device. No app store required — just visit seedr.cc and tap "Add to Home Screen." The PWA receives updates automatically, so you're always on the latest version without manual updates.
This cloud-first approach solves real problems that plague traditional download apps. You're not limited by your phone's storage — files live in your cloud locker, and you only download what you actually want to keep. Your mobile data isn't wasted downloading huge files — our servers do the heavy lifting, and you just stream the content you watch.
Supported Platforms
Mobile Devices
- iOS 12+ (iPhone & iPad) — Install as PWA directly from Safari. Use the native Share Sheet to send links to Seedr from any app — Safari, Chrome, Twitter, Reddit, or anywhere else you find links. Two taps: Share → Seedr → done. Downloads happen on our servers in the background — close the app, your download continues. Works great on both iPhones and iPads, with the interface adapting to your screen size.
- Android 5+ (all phones and tablets) — Install as PWA from Chrome or any Chromium-based browser. Android's Share menu integration means you can send links to Seedr from literally any app that supports sharing. The PWA integrates deeply with Android — set it as your default handler for magnet links, access files through your file manager, and receive notifications when downloads complete. Tested on devices from budget phones to Samsung flagships.
Desktop Browsers
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge — The full Seedr experience with all features. Drag and drop files or links directly onto the page. Use keyboard shortcuts for power users (arrow keys to navigate, Enter to open, Delete to remove). Multi-select files with Ctrl/Cmd+click for batch operations. Right-click context menus for quick actions. The interface scales from laptops to 4K monitors.
- Chrome Extension — Right-click any link on any webpage to send it directly to Seedr. No need to copy-paste or switch tabs. The extension adds a toolbar button for quick access to your Seedr dashboard. Works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, and other Chromium-based browsers.
TV and Media Centers
Watch your Seedr library on the big screen. We support multiple ways to get your content to your TV, from simple casting to full media server integration:
- Chromecast — Built-in support in our video player. Tap the cast icon, select your device, and video instantly appears on your TV. Your phone becomes the remote control — play, pause, seek, adjust volume, switch quality, enable subtitles. State syncs bidirectionally, so actions on either device update the other.
- Roku — Access your entire Seedr library directly on Roku devices. Browse folders, search for files, and stream video without needing any other device as a controller. Complete Roku setup guide →
- Kodi — Our official Seedr addon integrates directly into Kodi's interface. Browse your Seedr storage, stream videos, and manage downloads without leaving Kodi. Works on any device that runs Kodi — Raspberry Pi, Amazon Fire TV, Nvidia Shield, Windows, Mac, Linux, and more. Learn more about the Kodi addon →
- Plex — Connect your Seedr storage to Plex as a library source. Plex automatically scans your content, organizes your media library, fetches metadata and artwork, and serves it to any Plex client. Two connection options: WebDAV for high-speed access (Master plan) or FTP for flexible connectivity (Pro+ plans). WebDAV setup guide → | FTP connection guide →
- Jellyfin — Prefer self-hosted, open-source software? Jellyfin works great with Seedr. Mount your Seedr storage as a network location via WebDAV, and Jellyfin handles the rest — metadata, transcoding, subtitles, multi-user access. Your media server, your rules. Jellyfin + Seedr integration guide →
How Mobile Downloading Actually Works
Traditional downloading on mobile is painful. Large files eat your data plan, drain your battery as your phone works to maintain the connection, fill up your limited storage, and if your connection drops mid-download, you often have to start over. Seedr eliminates all of these problems by moving the download to the cloud.
Share a link to Seedr
Find a magnet link or file URL anywhere on the web. Tap the Share button, then tap Seedr. That's it — your work on mobile is done. You can also paste links directly into the Seedr app if you prefer.
Seedr's servers handle the download
Our servers fetch the file using high-speed data center connections. Your phone stays cool (no CPU-intensive downloading), your battery stays full, and your mobile data plan stays intact. Downloads continue even if you close the app, lose signal, or turn off your phone entirely.
Stream or download when you're ready
Once the file is in your Seedr storage, watch it immediately via streaming (uses minimal data — only what you actually watch) or download it to your device for offline access. Your choice, and you can decide later.
This approach is especially powerful for large files. A 50GB file would take hours on mobile data (and eat through your data cap). With Seedr, our servers grab it in minutes using our gigabit connections, and you stream just the portions you actually watch — typically a few hundred megabytes instead of the full 50GB.
The Share Sheet: Your Mobile Shortcut
Both iOS and Android have built-in sharing systems that let apps send content to each other. Seedr hooks into this system deeply, making it incredibly fast to grab links from anywhere on the web:
- From Safari or Chrome: Long-press any link → Share → Seedr. The download starts on our servers immediately.
- From Reddit, Twitter, or any social app: See an interesting link in a post? Tap share → Seedr. No need to open it in a browser first.
- From email or messaging apps: Someone sent you a link? Share → Seedr.
- From file manager apps: Have a download link file? Share it to Seedr and we'll process it.
The Share Sheet integration means two taps from anywhere replaces the old workflow of copy-paste-switch-apps-paste-wait. It's the fastest way to send links to Seedr.
Offline Mode (v2)
Heading somewhere without internet? Seedr v2 supports offline caching. Save content before you leave WiFi, then watch anywhere — flights, road trips, camping, underground metro.
Choose your quality:
Pick from 360p to 2160p (limited by your plan). Lower quality = smaller files. Higher quality for tablets and TVs.
- Play while downloading:Start watching immediately as segments download. No waiting for the full file.
- Pin important videos:Pinned content stays cached and won't be cleaned up automatically.
- Smart storage management:Unpinned videos use LRU (least recently used) cleanup when space is needed. No arbitrary expiration dates.
- Watch offline:Once cached, videos play without any connection.
Offline caching is a v2 feature. Premium members get instant v2 access.
Casting to Your TV
Your phone is great for finding and managing content. Your TV is great for actually watching it. Seedr bridges the gap with native casting support and deep integration with home theater software.
Chromecast (Built-in)
Our video player includes a Chromecast button whenever a compatible device is on your network. Tap it, select your Chromecast, and video moves to your TV in seconds. Your phone becomes a full-featured remote control:
- Play, pause, seek to any position in the video
- Volume control (including mute)
- Quality switching (options depend on plan and version)
- Subtitle selection and timing adjustment
- Up Next queue — line up what to watch next
State synchronizes bidirectionally. Pause on your phone, it pauses on TV. Someone adjusts volume on the TV, your phone shows the change. If connection drops, the player recovers automatically when signal returns.
Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi, and Roku
For dedicated home theater setups, connect Seedr directly to your media server software. Your Seedr library becomes just another source in your existing media system:
- Plex: Add Seedr as a library via WebDAV or FTP. Plex scans your content, fetches metadata and artwork, and serves it to any Plex client (smart TVs, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, game consoles, etc.). WebDAV guide | FTP guide
- Jellyfin: Open-source, self-hosted alternative. Same WebDAV connection, similar result. Setup guide
- Kodi: Native Seedr addon gives you direct access to your library within Kodi's interface. Addon details
- Roku: Dedicated Seedr channel for native Roku access. Setup instructions
File Management on Mobile
Seedr isn't just a video streaming app. The full file management interface works on mobile too, with touch-optimized controls:
Browse and navigate:
Full folder structure, with list and grid view options. Sort by name, date, size, or type.
Search:
Find files instantly across your entire library. Recent searches are saved for quick access to things you look up often.
Organize:
Create folders, move files between them, rename anything. Drag and drop works on touch screens too.

Why Cloud Downloading Beats Local Apps
Traditional download apps work fine when you're on fast WiFi with unlimited storage. They fall apart in real mobile situations:
- Large file on mobile data? Local apps eat your data plan and take forever. Seedr's servers download it instantly on our fast connections; you stream only what you watch.
- Phone storage full? Local apps can't download anything until you delete stuff. Seedr stores files in the cloud — stream without using local storage.
- Connection drops mid-download? Local apps may lose progress or corrupt the file. Seedr downloads happen on our stable servers; your connection doesn't matter.
- Want to watch on your TV? Local apps require awkward file transfers or cables. Seedr casts directly or integrates with your media server.
- Need the file on another device? Local apps keep files on one device. Seedr: one cloud library, accessible from everything you own.
- Battery dying? Local downloading is CPU-intensive and drains battery fast. Seedr's cloud downloading uses almost no battery — your phone just waits.
Local App vs. Seedr: Side-by-Side
| Situation | Local App | Seedr |
|---|---|---|
| Large file (10GB+) | Hours on mobile data, drains battery | Ready in minutes, stream what you need |
| Phone storage full | Can't download until you delete files | Stream directly, no local storage used |
| Connection drops | Download may fail or corrupt | Server keeps downloading, resume anytime |
| Watch on TV | Need cables or awkward transfers | Cast with one tap, or use Plex/Kodi |
| Multiple devices | Manually transfer files between devices | One cloud library, access from anywhere |
| Battery life | Heavy CPU use drains battery | Minimal usage — phone just displays |
| Offline access | Must download entire file first | Cache specific content, choose quality |
Common Questions
Is there a native app for iOS/Android?
Seedr works as a Progressive Web App (PWA) installed from your browser. This gives you an app-like experience without going through app stores. Tap "Add to Home Screen" in Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android). The PWA receives updates automatically, works offline, and integrates with your system's Share menu.
Does it work on older phones?
Yes. Seedr runs on iOS 12+ (iPhone 5s and newer) and Android 5+ (most phones from 2014 onwards). The web-based approach means we support a much wider range of devices than native apps typically do.
Can I download files for offline use?
Yes. On v2, you can cache content for offline viewing — choose your quality and watch without a connection. You can also download the original files to your device on any version.
How do I send links to Seedr from other apps?
Use your phone's Share button. When you find a link in Safari, Chrome, Reddit, Twitter, or any app, tap Share → Seedr. The link is sent to our servers instantly. Two taps from anywhere replaces the old copy-paste workflow.
Does casting work from mobile?
Yes. Chromecast integration is built into our video player. Tap the cast icon, select your device, and video plays on your TV. Your phone becomes the remote control. Also works with Roku, Kodi, Plex, and Jellyfin through their respective apps.
Can I manage files on mobile?
The full file manager works on mobile — create folders, move files, rename, multi-select, search. The interface adapts to touch with gestures like long-press for selection and swipe for actions. Not a stripped-down mobile version; it's the real thing.
What about tablets?
iPads and Android tablets work great. The interface scales to larger screens, showing more content and using the extra space effectively. Install as a PWA for the best experience.
How much data does streaming use?
Depends on quality. Lower quality uses less data; higher quality uses more. The player adjusts automatically based on your connection.
